Georgetown sits at about 8,500 feet at the head of the Clear Creek valley, and it’s the county seat of Clear Creek County. It started with a gold strike in 1859, then silver took over and turned it into one of the richest towns in Colorado. A lot of that Victorian architecture is still standing, and the town is part of the Georgetown-Silver Plume National Historic Landmark District.
It’s a real small town, around 1,100 people, with a walkable historic downtown, Georgetown Lake at the edge of town, the Georgetown Loop Railroad, and Guanella Pass right up the road. Denver is about 45 miles east on I-70, and Loveland Ski Area is roughly 15 minutes west.
Homes range from restored Victorians in the historic district to cabins and newer builds on the hillsides. Historic district guidelines, steep lots, snow, and I-70 traffic on ski weekends are all part of the conversation. If Georgetown is on your list, let’s talk through what living here actually looks like year-round.
